The CC&S is a Class 1 Railroad running from Chicago to New Orleans. The Modeled portion runs from just north of Champaign, Illinois, south, to just short of the Ohio River. Separate staging yards feed both ends of the railroad. Junctions and interchanges with the B&O, PRR, NYC, IC, and Wabash are featured. There is local switching at five towns, in addition to the main city and yard at Champaign.

The layout is a triple deck with a helix joining the three levels. Staging yards and the dispatcher are located in a separate room. The layout room is 16’ by 25’ with 496’ of main line. Operation is timetable and trainorder with carcards and waybills. RailCommand Command Control with 12 radio throttles and 3 to 1 fast clocks work in conjunction with dispatcher controlled train order boards. The CC&S operates a four-hour session. The railroad operates with a 10 to 13 person crew. In addition to the train crews, there is a Dispatcher, Operator, Trainmaster, Yardmaster, and two yard switchers.
