While I wait to build the Chicago & North Western Waseca Sub, I am working on a smaller shelf style switching layout in my heated two car garage. This will feature the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy railroad and focus on Zone 3 in La Crosse, WI in the fall of 1968. The key features will be the Heilman Brewery and surrounding industries. This will be a heavy switching layout with 2 to 4 crews working together to serve up to 22 customers.
The layout will be built as a shelf switching layout along two sides of the garage, with connecting points for modules that will extend the layout. These modules will focus on the east and west end of the zone and will travel to local train shows for demonstration of prototypical operations.
Construction of this railroad will commence in early December and should be operational by Spring, 2025.
Current Proposed Plan
The plan below includes a permanent part along the back and left side of the garage as well as a connection for a 12 foot switching module. This will be built entirely with Code 83 track and turnouts. While the plan may change slightly during construction, the goal is to have three separate switching areas and force crews to work with each other to complete their work.
