(St. Louis, December 12, 1951) Lake Erie and Southern management announced Monday the acquisition and refurbishment of 11 former Pennsylvania Railroad cars for use in its crack passenger trains. Purchased late last summer were four railway post office cars and seven baggage cars. They were rebuilt and repainted to LE&S livery through the fall and early winter at the railroad's car shops in St. Louis. They will enter service throughout the entire LE&S system starting January 14, especially on mail trains #11 and #12 between Cleveland and St. Louis. "These cars will add capacity to our head-end mail and express business," said LE&S general manager Ron Copher. "And the RPOs will replace older equipment." Mail and express business is strong on the LE&S according to Copher. "After all, who could ever imagine the Post Office going out of business?"
